I can’t change my country on Spotify free
Moving to a different country can be a real mess.
Many web-services doesn’t offers the same rules on different countries, Spotify is one of these.
Spotify free accounts can reproduce music on different country for at most 15 days.
After this time, Spotify FAQ suggest you to change your country in the profile page but you don’t exactly have all the countries available..
I don’t know if it’s a simple bug or a wanted behaviour, but I’m not going to the UK and I want my account to be transferred in another country RIGHT NOW! (without having to register a Premium account and change my payment method)
This guide is made using Google Chrome, the same can be done with any other browser but the design will be slightly different.
1) Right click on the Country’s select and from the cascade menu click “Inspect Element”
2) Identify this part of HTML code and change the value of a un-selected country
On the Chrome debugger that should be now opened in the bottom, look for the following code and edit by double clicking the value of another country.
You can check available country codes on Spotify language page
If you don’t have two countries to begin with you can also manually add an additional option copying the syntax of your actual country omitting the attribute selected=”selected”
I changed “United Kingdom” value to “it”, Italian country code.
3) Select the other country and update your profile
You are done.
You can verify you are in the right country by changing your ZIP code in a valid one for that country (un-valid ZIP code will not be changed on profile save).
Right now you should be able to resume your listening in your new foreign country.
Have a good Spotify time 🙂
You saved my music life!
You are welcome 🙂
I’ve tried changing the value, but it returns with ‘you must specify a country from the list’. Any idea?
There is the possibility that they fixed it :O
They patched it, initially they would only give you options based off where you were (ie: the others were open, just invisible), now they lock your selection
It worked for me, but I use VPN, Proxy (whatever you call it).
I use Lantern VPN.
Thank you so much, I used proxy (those that change my IP) before, and listened to USA but guess Netherlands will do. Thanks again.
This still works perfectly. I had the same problem as of September 2016 where it only gave me Spain and the USA as options, but I needed Ireland. This worked and now it’s recognising me as being in Ireland and letting me sign in via my Irish Facebook again. Thanks a million!
ok I discovered they didn’t patched it but they check the current country where you are.
If you want to change to a country you are not currently in (IP address) you have to use a proxy.
The idea is brilliant!
However, it was not working if the IP does not belong to the country you want to register to.
Once you change your address, you don’t need to do the inspect thing anymore, as the list will be updated according to IP.
To change IP you can use some Chrome extension: Tunnelbear or Hola. (I found Tunnelbear more reliable)
I’m trying to change it in both Safari and in Chrome, but both tell me that the option is not valid. I’m trying to change it from Spain to Thailand. I’m using:
“th” for “es”
and “Thailand” for “Spain”
Once I do this I can see how it changes automatically, but when moment I save it, it gives me the error message and back to the original problem. Any ideas?!
You should be connected from the country you want to activate in order to have it working. You can use a VPN temporary for it.
your chosen country needs to be one of their available country options, or it wont work
